Headley villager's six decades playing church organ
Evelyn Hiscock has played the organ at several churches including St Mary’s in Kingsclere, St Paul’s, Ashford Hill and St Peter’s, Headley - but first began playing the organ at St Peter’s church, 60 years ago.
Her dedication was recently marked by the congregation at St Peter’s, with the presentation of a large, engraved glass bowl.
Vicar of the United Benefice of Kingsclere and Ashford-Hill-with-Headley, Rev Lucy Thirtle, said the presentation had marked Mrs Hiscock’s long and faithful service to the church:
“Evelyn still plays for all the sung services at Headley and has also frequently helped out at the sister church of St Paul’s, Ashford Hill, as well as at St Mary’s, Kingsclere,” said Ms Thirtle.
St Paul’s church, Ashford Hill was seeking a new organist, to pick up the reins, as Mrs Hiscock takes a lesser role playing the organ. Anyone interested should contact the Rev Lucy Thirtle, telephone (01635) 299489.
