Private health clinic in Thatcham introduces new services for women
A private health clinic in Thatcham has introduced new services for women.
Total Health West Berkshire, which started a screening package testing for prostate cancer in men over 18 last year, has recruited new staff to offer new services for women.
It can now provide ring pessary and Coil/IUD fittings, checks and exchanges, in addition to running a menopause clinic, GP appointments, health screenings, blood tests and ECGs (electrocardiogram).
Founder and clinic director Rosie Piercy, from Shaw, explained more about the new services available.
She said: “We can do private smear tests as well. So, if people are outside the NHS screening age or are not eligible for one yet, but they want one done, then we can do that.
“We can also do breast exams if women are looking for reassurance over a lump or bump they have found.
“Or maybe they're just having some changes associated with menopause or something like that, then they can come and have that checked as well.
“A lot of them, you should be able to get under GP on the NHS generally.
“But we know that sometimes people struggle to get those appointments or maybe the appointments aren't convenient when they want them, or they just don’t want to have to wait.”
Full costs for appointments, screenings and fittings are as follows.
Breast screenings, to detect cancers, cost £120, including any referral letter made to a GP or another specialist.
Smear tests, to check for cervical cancer, cost £210, including lab costs.
A ring pessary is a removable device inserted into the vagina to help prevent pelvic organ prolapse, which can occur after childbirth.
Fittings cost £150, including the cost of a PVC ring pessary, which can be fitted in the same appointment.
A Coil/IUD (intrauterine device) is a birth control device inserted into the uterus to prevent pregnancy.
An initial 30-minute consultation costs £120, while a fitting costs £350, which includes the cost of the coil. To have an existing coil checked costs £130.
