Heart-shaped Valentine's Day events, sport, family fun and evening entertainment





Parkway shoppers have chance to win a real diamond during a give-way which continues today and tomorrow (Sun).
To take part, visit the shopping centre and collect one of 3,500 jewellery boxes being given out.
Each box contains a replica diamond - and one box contains the real thing!
Contestants need to register the code found on the box online at www.shopparkway.com, to find out if they have won.
There is also still chance today to add a red Valentine’s Love Note to those in the window of Newbury charity shop, the British Heart Foundation, in the Market Place, and for a minimum £1 donation.
The red paper hearts are available in the shop, with notes already left for lovers, from children to their parents, and by grandparents to their grandchildren.
To work off Valentine’s Day chocolates, join a fun run starting at 9am on Greenham Common.
More chocolate can be found back in Newbury, thanks to local chocolatier, Mark Willis, hosting a children's chocolate making session for ages nine to 16, from 9.30am to 11am at St John’s church hall.
Alternatively two performances, at 11.30am and 1.30pm, of Duck in a Truck, suitable for three to seven year-olds, are at Arlington Arts Centre, Mary Hare School, tickets £8 , or £25 for a family.
Shaw House also throws open its historical doors today, with free entry to the house and this offer set to continue over the season.
There are seven historic rooms to explore within the 16th century house, plus two exhibition rooms and a further children’s activity room.
The cafe will also be open offering drinks, sandwiches and homemade cakes and visitors can enjoy a complimentary introductory talk and wander through the grounds.
Or head to the Newbury Model Railway Show at St Bartholomew’s School, from 10am to 4.30pm, tickets £5 adults, £4.50 seniors, £2.50 children, £10 family of four. Refreshments and free parking.
For sports fans there is a a 12pm hockey match between Newbury ladies and Bicester, at Henwick.
A rugby match at 2.30pm sees Tadley take on Old Reigatian, at Red Lane, with football at 3pm at Newbury FC ground, Faraday Road, Newbury versus Ardley.
This evening sees a 7pm, Pangbourne Choral Society performance of Messiah, accompanied by the Southern Sinfonia Orchestra on baroque instruments, in the Falkland Islands Memorial Chapel, Pangbourne College.
