Hello again, Mr Mayor

Martin Crane back in the top seat at Hungerford Town Council

MEET the new Mayor of Hungerford. If his face looks familiar, it should.
Martin Crane has agreed to revisit the role he fulfilled for three terms before stepping down to make way for the outgoing incumbent, Dennis Benneyworth.
At a meeting of the full town council on Monday night, Mr Benneyworth said: “I would just like to say what a wonderful, hectic and rewarding experience I have had over the past 12 months as mayor of Hungerford.
“The kindness and goodwill I’ve been shown over that time has been overwhelming and it has been a truly humbling experience to represent this town.
“The last year has seen a coming together and fruition of some major projects for the council and it has been an honour to have been at the helm at this time.
“The Triangle Field changing rooms improvement and freehold purchase has been a real stand-out, as well as the 99-year lease of The Croft and its building.
“These are projects which have secured tangible assets for the town for many years to come and to have done so is a real achievement and testament to this council’s effectiveness as a cohesive lobbying body.”
He thanked all the council staff and added: “It would be remiss of me to not have mentioned deputy mayor Roger Thompson for his help during my mayoral year – he stood in for me on many occasions and his help proved invaluable.”
Mr Benneyworth wished Mr Crane the best of luck and concluded: “In the words of Arnold Schwartzenegger, I’ll be back. Hopefully.”
Mr Crane’s first act a new mayor was to select the chairman of the council’s highways and transport committee, Rob Brookman, as his deputy.
