Henderson hails McCoy's "once in a lifetime achievement" as Lambourn jockey bags 4,000th winner
The 39-year-old bagged the 4,000th win of his career after winning on the second of two rides at Towcester today (Thurs).
The 18-time champion reached the milestone on Mountain Tunes in the 15:10 race.
His 3,999 race came yesterday at Chepstow.
Champion trainer Henderson, told Newburytoday that people still remembered when Stan Mellor notched up 1,000 winners and how at the time it was unheard of.
He said: “It’s utterly ridiculous; it’s absolutely phenomenal.
“It’s because of the sort of person he is – determined with such natural talent.
"It’s going to be impossible for someone to try and match this because it’s totally and utterly unique.
“It’s a once in a lifetime achievement which is never going to be broken.
“For the world of racing it’s extremely good – this sort of thing puts racing on the front page – where it should be.”
Of McCoy, he said: “He is a good friend and a determined professional.
“Every champion has got to have that gritty determination to be that much better than everybody else – whatever sport it is.
“One thing about these guys is that that they fall and break – I don’t know how his body has kept on it.
“What he puts himself through is staggering – he is made of iron.
“His bones break like everybody else's but he just goes through the pain barrier.
“Nobody is more determined and passionate about horses.
“Lambourn will definitely be celebrating tonight.”
