Christmas cheer from the NWN Over 80s’ Parcel Fund - here’s how to donate and get involved
Every year the Newbury Weekly News spreads a little Christmas cheer to nearly 2,000 elderly residents in West Berkshire.
Anyone over the age of 80, whose name we have been given, receives a Christmas food parcel in December.
The parcel is purely to send a message to its elderly recipient saying how the people of West Berkshire recognise and are grateful for their life-long work. It is a seasonal ‘thank you’ from the whole of the community.
Fundraising is now in full swing.
The competition for the Newbury News School Quiz Trophy is taking place at our Primary School Quiz night hosted by Falkland Primary School.
It will be held on Wednesday, November 6, from 6.30pm to 8pm.
To enter a team of four or five pupils from Year 5 or 6 contact Jo Fulker on jo.fulker@newburynews.co.uk.
The mayor of Newbury, Andy Moore, is also helping us raise money and he would very much like you to join him and other councillors for a tea or coffee and a piece of cake on the morning of Saturday, November 16.
So please put the date in your diary and join us there.
If you would like to add the name of someone you know, over the age of 80 who lives in Newbury Hungerford or Thatcham to our list, or to remove a name of someone who no longer requires a parcel, please email jo.fulker@newburynews.co.uk with the person’s name, address and date of birth.
Donations are already coming in and this week I would like to thank Greenham Trust, Rivar Ltd, the Town and Manor of Hungerford, Newbury Rotary Club, Castle Windows and Jones Robinson Estate Agents for their financial support.
If you would like to make a donation and are able to donate through the Good Exchange, Greenham Trust will match the amount you donate, which doubles the money we receive towards the parcels.
To do this please go to https://app.thegoodexchange.com/project/20657 or use the QR code.
