Here's to the future

Children from Rocking Horse Day Nursery bury time capsule for future generations

CHILDREN and staff at the Rocking Horse Nursery, Newbury Racecourse, left a message for the future community when they buried a time capsule in the garden of their new nursery last week.

The nursery, established more than 20 years ago in the grounds of the racecourse, is moving into a state-of-the-art building in August.

The time capsule, created to celebrate the new nursery opening, contains items from the past, but also items that will serve as a reminder in the future of what was important to the nursery and its children in 2015.

It also includes a letter addressed to the future. In it, the reader is urged to look after the environment and be kind to each other.

The letter also says: “Remember our children are our future, nurture them with love and stability, teach them right from wrong.

“Follow these guidelines and the world will be a better place to live in for all of us.”

The time capsule contents include a copy of the Racing Post and Newbury Weekly News, a racecard and a pair of tickets from the NSPCC Charity Race Evening, all from July 23, photographs of Rocking Horse Nursery staff and photos of the Newbury Racecourse Centenary in 2005.
