He's gonna be (sore)
Tom Buckingham, aged 42, from Valley Road, will depart on Saturday (2) and rather than head along the roads he will make his way along towpaths and canals of England all the way up to the Scottish city.
His first leg will not begin in Newbury, but from Castle Carym, before cycling to Odcombe in Somerset to officially begin the journey.
“I thought I would try and do something different and I am not just doing it for the charity or for the journey, there is another reason - I’m going to see a customer for work,” he said.
No stranger to bikes, Mr Buckingham cycles 20 miles a day, but said he has not embarked on a particularly strenuous training programme and is simply going to give it his best shot.
“I cycle everywhere, I’m going to aim to do between 60 and 70 miles a day over nine days.
His employer, Universal Network, is match funding his feat, which is in aid of Railway Children, a children’s charity which helps youngsters in the UK and abroad.
