Heart kiosks show a third have high blood pressure

A third of people who used experimental kiosks installed in West Berkshire had high blood pressure.

The £10,000 project saw three blood pressure kiosks in Thatcham, Newbury and Hungerford to measure weight and heart age.

A report to West Berkshire’s executive committee said 200 tests were taken by 157 users. Forty-eight per cent of them were overweight or obese, and 17 per cent with high body fat.

“We are evaluating the impact of the kiosks in line with other Berkshire West councils,” said the report, “… and considering whether to move one of the kiosks to Theale due to rurality and local data indicating high blood pressure in the area”.
