Highclere Castle event boosts funds for armed forces by £115,000




A HEROES at Highclere event at Highclere Castle on August 3 raised £115,000 for armed forces charities.

The Earl of Carnarvon told Newburytoday this week that the funds had been shared out between the Royal British Legion, ABF Soldiers Fund, Combat Stress, several smaller medical charities, US Veterans, the RAF Benevolent Fund and Oxfam.

Lord Carnarvon said: “Oxfam care for so many refugees and civilians caught up in the horrors of war.

“The day was very much enjoyed by people of all ages in the fine weather and it is nice that it has also been able to help all these very good causes.

“We want to thank everyone from the local area who came and supported the event and all the kind people who made donations, sponsored activities and helped make it all happen.”

Thousands of people visited the August event, for a stunning day of displays and flypasts, including the Spirit of Kent Spitfire and an performance from The Blades aerobatic display team.

Heroes at Highclere was also attended by several members of the cast from the hit ITV drama Downton Abbey which id filmed at Highclere Castle.
