Highclere chef cooks guests' breakfasts over log fire during power cut
Spokeswoman for Southern Electric, Hannah Gleave, said power was cut to 31 customers in the Andover Road, including the Yew Tree pub/restaurant, at 8.45am, after a tree fell on power lines.
Supplies were returned in stages, whilst repairs were carried out, with supplies restored to all affected customers by 12.30pm.
Yew Tree owner, Simon Davis, said staff were forced to to ‘think on their feet,' he said when the power cut struck, as three guests were waiting for their breakfasts.
A log fire in the dining room became an impromptu stove, enabling the chef to cook and dish up ‘full English’ breakfasts:
“The scrambled eggs took a lot longer,” said Mr Davis, adding it was a ‘first,’ he said for the establishment, and before Tweeting a photograph of the cooked breakfasts (pictured).
Southern Electric has apologised to all affected customers, whilst thanking them for their patience during repairs to low voltage overhead cables.
