Highclere school's big 25

Pupils at the independent Thorngrove school recently celebrated the landmark date by grouping together on the school’s playing field in the shape of the numerals 2 and 5 - before Adam King, the headteacher, was flown over the school in a helicopter, to take their photograph.
“Although, the children were very excited to see the low flying helicopter they managed to stand still long enough for me to take a photo,” said Mr King.
Later in the week, at speech day, the school’s founders, Nicholas and Constance Broughton, unveiled a portrait montage of themselves and their dogs.
“Every child in the school contributed to the montage by painting a small tile,” said Mr King. Mr and Mrs Broughton set up Thorngrove school on the site of an old pig farm in Highclere, near Newbury.
The school is currently experiencing record pupil numbers, with the new nursery full and Year 3 expanding to three forms to cope with demand, according to Mr King.
