A spokesman for the Highways Agency, Stuart Thompson, said that despite the first of the Olympic priority lanes opening today, the M4 had experienced “no delays over and above normal Monday traffic.”
However, an accident close to Junction 10 at Maidenhead which involved a car colliding with the central reservation caused slight delays earlier this morning.
Reports in the national media described the accident and the opening of the Olympic lane as a "perfect storm" which had resulted in 32 mile tailbacks stretching on the M4 from London back to its junction with the A34 at Newbury.
