History lesson in the great outdoors
St Martin's primary school pupils visit Donnington Castle in Newbury and enjoy school fete
PUPILS from an East End primary school took learning curves to new heights on a recent visit to Donnington Castle in Newbury, then let off steam at a fundraising fete last Saturday (July 9).
Around 20 reception class pupils from St Martin's primary school recently increased their knowledge of local history with a visit to the castle.
”They looked carefully at the ruins and thought how they might have looked, or been used in the past,” said school spokeswoman, Sarah Hennessey, adding the weather was fantastic and pupils very well behaved.
Then on Saturday, July 2, school was out with a fete in the school grounds, boosting school funds by around £1,000.
A relaxing atmosphere was provided by Newbury jazz band, Idle Words at the traditional fete and games, opened by the school's chairman of governors, Colin Bonner. Attractions included a barbecue, putting golf and a stall selling craft
items made by parents.
