Reading Crown Court: Southampton man remanded in custody for Newbury hit-and-run which left girl, 12, with permanent brain injuries

A DRIVER whose hit-and-run on a 12-year-old girl left her with life changing-injuries has been remanded in custody.

The horror happened when the 20-year-old motorist's truck mounted the pavement on the A339 Greenham Road in Newbury and struck the child on December 27, 2019.

At Reading Crown Court today (Thursday), Ethan Davison admitted dangerous driving causing serious injury.

He further admitted perverting the course of justice by falsely telling police his vehicle had been stolen and he was not the driver at the time.

The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was walking with her family when the tragedy, which left her with permanent brain injuries, occurred.

Davison, who lives in Harrison Road, Southampton, Hampshire, was told to expect a custodial sentence.

Judge Emma Nott cited his apparent lack of remorse and the fact he had tried to mislead police while the girl lay critically ill as aggravating factors.

Davison will learn his ultimate fate on Friday, September 10, and was meanwhile denied bail.
