Entertainment retailer HMV to open in Newbury's Parkway Shopping

Another high street favourite is preparing to return to Newbury.

HMV, which celebrates its centenary this year, is due to open later this autumn in Parkway Shopping.

It will be situated in the unit that served as a temporary Next Click and Collect until last month.

The retailer is currently advertising for sales staff – both full-time and part-time – to work in the Newbury shop.

The entertainment store, which sells music, film, TV, technology and merchandise, had a presence at 79 Northbrook Street, now home to Poundland, for many years.

It was one of 37 stores across the UK earmarked for closure in February 2013; having survived an earlier first wave of 66 store closures that saw 930 staff facing redundancy.

It finally closed its doors just weeks later, leaving shoppers to travel to Reading or Basingstoke to find their nearest HMV.
