Homage to a jazz giant

Milestones play Miles Davis' iconic album at Arlington Arts

On Thursday, at 8pm, Milestones will be performing Miles Davis' iconic Kind of Blue at Arlington Arts.

Kind of Blue was not only as Davis' best-selling album, but also the best-selling jazz record of all time. It marked the birth of a new style of jazz performance and featured what was to become the trumpeter's greatest band.

Davis' subsequent career saw him continue to push the boundaries of the genre and he is now considered by many to have been one of the most influential recording artists of the 20th century. In 2010, band leader and pianist, Terry Seabrook, assembled a group of 6 musicians to perform the classic 1959 album in its entirety and the band Milestones was born. The original notion was to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the release (albeit a year late). However, such was the reception of the bands performance, that they were compelled to organise a tour of the UK, which, in 2011, does mark the twentieth anniversary of Miles Davis' death.

The line-up will be Alan Barnes (baritone and alto sax) Graeme Flowers (trumpet) Ian Price (tenor sax) Spike Wells (drums) Paul Whitten (bass) and Terry Seabrook (piano).

Tickets, priced £12 (£10 discounts) are available from the box office on 01635 244246, or visit www.arlingtonarts.co.uk
