A Tilehurst bonfire piled with tyres which raged out of control was extinguished by firefighters yesterday evening (April 14).
Two Reading pumps, including one from Dee Road and another from Caversham, were called at 8.20pm to Ringwood Road, where a bonfire in a garden was out of control, due to burning tyres, with smoke visible in a wide area surrounding the fire, according to firefighters at the scene.
The householders evacuated the property before firefighters arrived and no-one was hurt.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze with a main jet, before leaving the scene after one and a half hours.
The cause was put down to uncontrolled burning.
