Firefighters called to Chaddleworth hay blaze

Road closure in place

A Chaddleworth road has been closed following a hay fire.

Firefighters from Newbury and Ramsbury were called to Hangman's Stone Lane at 3.30pm on Saturday and spent nearly five hours tackling the fire.

Crew manager at Newbury Fire Station, Martyn Doolin, said that approximately 100 tonnes of hay was alight.

Not only did the crews spend five hours fighting the fire but they have been back during the night to assess the scene.

Mr Doolin said that the cause of the fire was unknown at this stage.

The road is currently closed.
