Coronavirus West Berkshire: confirmed cases as of Friday, January 22
Thu, 24 Sept 2015
A 'CAKEY MAP' of West Berkshire proved the piece d la resistance at a World's Biggest Coffee Morning, held a day early by West Berkshire Council (WBC) this morning (Thursday).
The main event is officially tomorrow (Friday September 25), when Macmillan Cancer Support will see coffee cups clinking across the nation in aid of the charity's biggest national fundraiser.
A spokesperson for the West Berkshire Council, Jude Thomas, who helped to organise this morning's fundraiser - with the total raised still being totted up - said:
"We host our coffee morning every year because it's for a charity which means so much to so many people across the council.
It's always a good event with people rallying around to bake cakes - and with a healthy dose of competition too!".
Among the council's cakes was a fantastic effort, decorated to resemble a map of West Berkshire, featuring tiny figures of local landmarks, including lock gates.
Baker, Marsha Pauling, a systems administrator based at the council's Market Street offices, said the cake was her competition showstopper and continued:
"I’m hoping when it’s auctioned that it raises lots of money for such a worthwhile cause that is also close to my heart. I stayed up until 2am putting the finishing touches to the cake and I hope that it’s a good representation of our district.
I also hope people had fun trying to work out what all of the ‘landmarks’ were."
Anyone not hosting a coffee morning can instead partake of refreshments tomorrow morning (Friday), at many coffee mornings planned in Newbury and beyond, in a show of support for the charity.
