NEWBURY’S Shopmobility service has received a shiny new mobility scooter thanks to the efforts of Newbury Lions.
The president of the voluntary organisation Lions, Ian Pearson, recently visited Newbury Shopmobility and handed over the keys of a Sterling Sapphire mobility scooter to Shopmobility volunteer, Michael McKay.
The director of Volunteer Centre West Berkshire which runs the service, Garry Poulson, said: “Thank you to Newbury Lions for this very useful gift to the town centre-based charity that enables people to go about their business with complete independence.
“Small scooters such as these are very shop friendly and it will serve as part of our fleet for around four years.”
Mr Pearson said: “Newbury Lions are pleased to help in this practical way which is very much part of our ethos.”
Next up for the charity fundraisers is the Lions’ popular Fireworks at the Racecourse event, which will take place on Saturday, November 7.
