The Big Match fundraiser at AFC Newbury raises £50,000

Neil 'Razor' Ruddock and Kelly Smith team managers

THE Big Match fundraiser at AFC Newbury on Saturday raised an amazing £50,000 for charity.

Held at the Faraday Road ground, the event saw a host of stars and celebrities and former professional footballers involved in a nail-bitingly close match, which kicked off at 2pm, after Kidz sessions in the morning.

Organised by Baughurst villager, Neil Humphries, the match saw a penalty shoot-out decider and raised funds for The Brain Tumour Charity - represented by the white's and Action for Children (the reds).

The white's team was managed by former professional footballer, Neil 'Razor' Ruddock - capped by England in 1994.

Kicking the red's team into action was England women’s player, Kelly Smith, who has made over 100 appearances for the national side, with 46 goals to her credit.

A glittering after party - Extra Time - held at the Wokefield Park Hotel, featured a line-up including performers of X-Factor and Britain's Got Talent fame.
