A NEW café hoping to become the hub of its community enjoyed its grand opening on Saturday.
The Courtyard Café in Hampstead Norreys welcomed members of the local community to the opening ceremony, with Newbury MP Richard Benyon performing ribbon-cutting duties.
Visitors had the chance to try the new Barista coffee and leaf tea as well as free food tastings.
The café is an extension to the Hampstead Norreys Community Shop, which opened in March 2011, and has enjoyed considerable success.
Richard Benyon MP said: “I was delighted to be invited to officially open the Courtyard Café.
“I am a big supporter of community-run businesses.
“They are a sustainable, democratic form of business that succeed where commercial ventures often fail in rural communities.
“They are run by the local community with a high percentage of volunteers, for the local community. It is wonderful to see this community business has flourished and expanded to now include this wonderful new café.”
Chairman of the Courtyard Café Management Committee, John Abbott, said: “We are very proud of our new café, which will allow our customers to enjoy some tasty, locally-sourced food and drink in a friendly and relaxed environment in and outdoors.
“I would like to thank everyone who has supported us in developing this new shop and café, including our small team of wonderful staff, our invaluable volunteers who ensure that this business remains sustainable, our community shareholders and of course all our customers.”
