A restaurant chain has donated £66,000 to local children’s charity Swings and Smiles thanks to the power of pavlova.
Côte Restaurants, with an outlet in Northbrook Street, raised the funds through sales of its dessert special of seasonal pavlova throughout September.
Founder of the charity, Sian Cook, said she was thrilled when Côte chief executive Alex Scrimgeour suggested the promotion after hearing about the charity’s need to fund the build of its new facility, which is expected to cost around £450,000.
She added: “We are overwhelmed by Côte’s generosity.
“It has been an incredible fundraising initiative and we are so grateful to everyone at Côte and their customers for their kindness and generosity in getting us well and truly on our way to reaching our goal and establishing our long-term future.
“In fact, through Côte, our fundraising has now reached 25 per cent of the target.”
The charity currently supports families from Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Surrey, as well as Berkshire.
The lease on the charity’s current home runs out in 2017 and it is aiming to build its own dedicated facility within the next two to three years.
A site has been identified that would meet its requirements, with sufficient outdoor space and is in an accessible location.
