Work begins on new, £4.5m cancer and renal unit

THERE’S no going back now.

Work officially got under way this week on the new, £4.5m cancer and renal unit at the West Berkshire Community Hospital.

And, if all continues going to plan, the Rosemary Centre will be open and treating patients by mid-summer next year.

One of the driving forces behind the project, the chairman of the Newbury and District Cancer Care Trust, David Ball, said at a ground-breaking ceremony on Monday: “We’ve passed the point of no return – we couldn’t be more thrilled.

“The ground workers have begun preparing the way for the main contractors, who should be on site by the end of November.

“The most important thing now is the support of the local community in raising the rest of the necessary money.

“We’d love to hear from anyone with fundraising ideas.”
