Newbury Building Society celebrates 160th birthday

NEWBURY Building Society has turned 160 years old.

Last Tuesday, the Newbury, Thatcham and Hungerford branches hosted a party to celebrate the anniversary and invited members to join them on the day for tea, coffee and a birthday cupcake.

Staff at the society’s head office, in Bartholomew Street, Newbury, also celebrated and commemorated the occasion.

The society was formed in 1856 and has been committed to helping local communities with their savings and to purchase homes ever since.

Today, the society has 65,000 members, with 10 branches across Berkshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire.

The society’s chief executive since 2007, Roland Gardner, said: “Newbury Building Society moves from strength to strength where value to members, high standards of customer service and involvement in our branch communities continues to be our primary focus.

“This remarkable milestone is a great endorsement of the products we provide and the service we continue to offer.”
