THIS was the scene at Burys Bank Road in Thatcham this afternoon (Saturday) after a car spun into a ditch.
The driver of the Seat Ibiza, 58-year-old Jane Garvey, was badly shaken but not seriously hurt.
The incident happened around 1.30pm and caused the road to be closed for more than an hour, causing tailbacks while police, fire and ambulance services attended and the area was made safe.
Mrs Garvey, who lives locally, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Police had to close the road again later while the car was removed by emergency services because of the fear of causing another accident at the awkward bend.
A district councillor who lives on the road, Sheila Ellison (Con, Thatcham North), expressed concern at the number of accidents there.
She said today's incident was the sixth in recent months.
Mrs Garvey said: "When the car came to rest I was trapped at first and there was smoke pouring from the engine so it was pretty frightening. I managed to get the door open and scramble out and I was helped by some lovely people who stopped to check I was alright.
"I'd like to thank, in particular, the two ladies who let me sit in their car until helped arrived."
