Thousands watch Santa switch on Newbury Christmas lights

IT might not be December just yet but the countdown to Christmas is well and truly on after Santa switched on the lights in Newbury tonight.

Thousands of people braved the cold to line the Market Place and Northbrook Street as Father Christmas made his way through town.

The fun started early in the afternoon with live reindeer and a Santas Grotto for the kids.

Live music kept the crowds entertained throughout the day before the big switch-on at 5pm.
