Horse rider takes on the Ridgeway Relay

Compton equestrian to cover 37 miles of the route to support animal welfare

COMPTON equestrian Chantal Cornelius is taking on the Ridgeway Relay today (Sunday) to raise money for leading international animal welfare organisation, the Brooke.

She will be be covering 37 miles of the Ridgeway Relay in one day by running 15 miles from Avebury to Swindon, then cycling 12 miles to Wantage before riding her horse Bee Bee 10 miles back to her home in Compton to the finish line.

She said: "The furthest I've run is 13 miles back in May for the Neolithic Half Marathon in Wiltshire so there's a bit of work to do there.

"I've not ridden a bike since 2009 and have never ridden one off road, so there's a lot of work to do there too!

"The horse riding bit should be okay as long as I'm not so tired that I can't hold on and steer her home."

The Brooke operates across Africa, Asia and Latin America, providing veterinary treatment and community programmes around animal health and wellbeing.
