Horse shot in face

The horror happened in fields near Chisbury Woods in Great Bedwyn.
The 11-year-old prize mare, named Dorothy - a highly-trained dressage horse - was discovered with a bullet wound just below her left eye on Wednesday, October 8.
She was found in distress by her owner, who kept her in the fields between mid day and 6.30pm.
Pc Jeff Rice from Wiltshire Police’s Rural Crime Team said: “The bullet actually entered Dorothy's skull and it was very fortunate that she wasn’t killed.
“At this stage we don’t believe this was a targeted attack but possibly a poaching related incident with the horse having been caught by a stray shot.”
He added: “The owner is understandably concerned for the safety of both his animals and staff who work in and around the area and we’d like to hear from anyone who knows anything about the incident.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Pc Rice on 101 or e-mail ruralcrimeteam@wiltshire.pnn.police.uk
Alternatively the independent Crimestoppers charity can be contacted on 0800 555 111.
