Bucklebury and Marlston Horticultural Society celebrates another successful Autumn Show
Villagers enjoyed another busy show at the weekend.
Despite the heat, 300 entries from 30 people featured at this year’s Bucklebury Autumn Show on Saturday, September 9.
The show opened to the public at The Victory Room in Bucklebury from 2pm, with teas and coffee on sale throughout the day while visitors perused the various exhibits.
A raffle was also held and cups were presented to the 16 winners at 3.45pm.
The winner of the heaviest potato was show secretary, Jane West, whose potato – grown in a 15-litre pot from one seed – weighed an impressive 2.5kg.
She says the judge, John Eckton, noted the high quality of all the exhibits.
The Bucklebury and Marlston Horticultural Society, established more than a century ago, holds three shows each year at The Victory Room. It also arranges outings to notable gardens and hosts seasonal talks.
While the society’s main interest is horticulture, it aims to promote a friendly social club welcoming new members from Thatcham and the surrounding villages.
