Newbury fire station charity car wash raises £1,500 for The Fire Fighters Charity
Hundreds of cars were left sparkling in the spring sunshine as Newbury firefighters hosted a charity car wash.
Red Watch, based at Newbury’s Hawthorn Road fire station, grabbed their buckets and sponges on Saturday (March 29) in a bid to raise cash for a charity close to all of their hearts.
Dozens of children also grabbed the opportunity to get up close to a real fire engine while they were there too.
With cars queuing down the road to get a spring clean, Red Watch were ably joined by members of the Fire Cadets to hose down the vehicles.
Reminding everyone that the fire crews are always on call – two engines rushed away to deal with an emergency during the day, leaving the cadets to ably man the pumps.
And thanks to the hard work of the fire crews and the generosity of the public, around £1,500 was raised for The Fire Fighters Charity.
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the charity was “a deserving cause that provides a variety of services and specialist support for fire service staff and their families”.
The charity supports firefighters and their families who have sustained physical and mental injuries in the line of duty with therapy and rehabilitation.
