Housing plans for garage site
The would-be developers are Sovereign Housing Association and the land is at Woodbury.
The proposal, which has now been put before planners at West Berkshire Council, involves demolishing 36 garages on the site north of the River Lambourn.
In their place, the association plans the construction of six new homes.
In a design and access statement, the applicants state that the garages “are not being used as frequently since the majority of the local residents use on-street car parking and/or their front drives.
“In place of the garages the proposal involves relandscaping of the site, a new access and building six new houses, one building consisting of two- two-bedroom properties and another building of four, one-bedroom properties.”
The association envisages that the two-bedroom properties would each house up to four people, and the others, two people each.
The statement continues: “The site is located on the edge of a built-up, residential area but within a wider village community with a good level of public amenity (primary school, shops, public house, doctors’ surgery) within walking distance.”
The proposed new access will be off Bockhampton Road and 11 car parking spaces have been earmarked for the proposed development.
The statement concludes that “the scheme provides housing for 16 people which responds to the current market need in the local area.”
Sovereign say they have consulted with local residents and also with district councillors for Lambourn but the latter had yet to respond.
Graham Jones (Con, Lambourn) said this week: “I’ve yet to gauge public opinion on this but it’s certainly something we shall be doing before we respond to this application formally.”
