Huge haystack fire at farm near Kintbury left to burn out

Crews from five local fire stations were involved in a three hour operation to get the blaze under control, after initially being called at 4.30pm to the (unnamed) farm, near Halfway, off the A4 near Kintbury, where a haystack of some 90 tonnes was blazing.
According to Ellie Gray of the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, the incident was initially attended by appliances from Newbury, Hungerford, Tilehurst, a multi-role vehicle, along with a Hampshire pump, later joined by a further crew from Mortimer and the night crew from Newbury, who took over from the station’s day crew.
Firefighters battled the blaze until 7.30pm, when they left the scene, after getting the blaze under control.
Phil Knight, watch manager of White Watch at Newbury Fire Station, who was at the scene said: “It will burn off over the next couple of days.”
No-one was hurt.
The cause was not known, but was not being treated as suspicious.
