Hundreds at Newbury's Remembrance Sunday parade

A large crowd gathered under blue skies in Newbury’s Market Place, including mayor of Newbury, Anthony Pick, town councillors and representatives of the armed forces, alongside veterans.
The crowd was joined at 10.55am by the parade, after a march from the Royal British Legion building in Pelican Lane and along Northbrook Street, for the Act of Remembrance.
Taken by the Rev Keri Enyon, the service included prayers, a hymn, the Exhortation and Last Post, the latter played by buglers, Edwin and Roger Vogel, of 1st Newbury Boys Brigade.
Flags were lowered, whilst Mr Enyon read out a roll of honour of the names of some of those who gave their lives during the First and Second World wars and who highlighted: “Those who continue to give their lives,” said Mr Enyon, in service of their country today.
This was followed by two minutes’ silence, prior to the Kohima Epitaph and the National Anthem.
The parade then left the Market Place, before wreath laying at Newbury’s war memorial, outside St Nicolas church.
Wreaths laid included one by Newbury MP Richard Benyon, on which he had written the simple personal message: “Lest we forget.”
Poppy crosses and flowers were among tributes left.
A march past the war memorial then took place, prior to a service at St Nicolas church.
