Jump 4 You charity marathon in memory of Paul Brooke-Taylor at The Post Barn to raise money for the Cost of Cancer
Hundreds of people will jump into action this weekend in memory of a local chef, a year on from his death.
Paul Brooke-Taylor, who worked as a chef at Highclere Castle, died on June 20, 2024, after being diagnosed with tonsil cancer in December 2022.
He leaves his wife Serena and their two children, Jack and Amelia, who are now marking the first anniversary of his death with “something positive” – a charity jump marathon and raffle.
Mrs Brooke-Taylor, who works as the executive assistant to the managing director of the Donnington Valley Group, organised the first charity Jump4You marathon last February, raising more than £16,000 for a small cancer charity that supported them during their darkest moments.
The latest event, which will be held on Sunday (June 22) at The Post Barn, near Donnington Valley Hotel, will again raise vital funds for the Cost of Cancer.
The small charity is run entirely by three volunteers and offers financial assistance to people during treatment.
Mr Brooke-Taylor was diagnosed with tonsil cancer in December 2022 and in November 2023 the family were given the devastating news that his cancer was incurable and terminal.
After his surgery Mr Brooke-Taylor had three months off work and it was at this time that the family turned to Cost of Cancer.
The idea for the jump-a-thon came about thanks to Jump 4 You – a fitness class company run by Mrs Brooke-Taylor and her business partner Gabi Fekete.
The event will see three hours of jumping “spreading connection, love, awareness and hopefully raising a lot of money for the Cost of Cancer”.
Jumps will begin at 9.30am, 10.30am and 11.30am.
The raffle will be drawn at 12.30pm on the day and there are some fabulous prizes up for grabs, including hotel stays, golf lessons, wine tastings, vouchers and meals out.
