Hundreds turn out for Yattendon and Frilsham fete
HUNDREDS of people braved the Bank Holiday Monday downpours by turning out to help raise around £14,000 for local charities at this year’s Yattendon and Frilsham Village Fete.
Fun was had by all ages at the traditional event, which once again took centre stage in the Yattendon Village Square and the Tithe Barn and included the usual crowd pleasers such as craft stalls, a nearly-new stall and the popular Bric-a-Brac stall.
There were also plenty of refreshments on offer including a hog roast, a BBQ and a Pimms stall - although the wet weather ensured that the busiest stand was the one serving teas and coffees in the warm surroundings of the Village Hall.
Morris dancers, vintage tractor and car displays and music provided by the Fiesta Steel Band also kept visitors entertained throughout the day.
One of the highlights proved to be the Fun Dog Show, which was organised by Yattendon-based professional dog training school Canine Education.
There were a host of awards on offer for those loveable pups entering, including categories for cutest puppy, most handsome dog, bonniest bitch, rescued rovers, waggiest tail, golden oldie (over seven years of age) and the judges favourite, which could be any breed or age.
Prizes and rosettes were awarded for the top three dogs in each category.
Most of the money raised is passed to the Yattendon and Frilsham Sports and Social Trust, which provides funds for local charities and good causes, as well as regular grants to the three local churches and the two village halls.
Chairman of the fete, Roger Sansom, said: “The weather was pretty horrendous but it looks like we managed to raise not far off what we did last year.
“It was a great atmosphere and the dog show proved to be a popular addition this year.”
