Hundreds turn out to pay their respects in remembrance day services





People flocked to the streets of Newbury town centre to watch the procession of West Berkshire dignitaries, the Newbury Royal British Legion, army cadets, servicemen and women from Denison Barracks, Hermitage and children from Newbury’s Cubs, Scouts, Brownies and Guides and for the first time, representatives of the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, among many others, led by Newbury band Watership Brass.
For the second year, the service was held in the Market Place to accommodate the large crowd.
Rev Keri Enyon, of Newbury United Reformed Church, led the service, with the Market Place falling silent as he read the Act of Remembrance followed by traditional remembrance hymn,


Prayers followed, along with a list of the fallen from Newbury whom the town lost in the First and Second World Wars.
Branch chairman for the Royal British Legion, Chris Green, recited the poem

to the crowds.
