Hundreds turn up for festive fun at Newbury Library

The library has confirmed almost 900 visitors were at the Christmas at Newbury library event, involving local singers and actors.
The entertainment started with Christmas songs, performed by pupils from Inkpen Primary School.
Santa visited to delight children at a special story time, which was also attended by actors/members of Kennet Amateur Theatrical Society’s (KATS) pantomime - Aladdin - in full costume. The stories were followed by a potted version of the pantomime, to promote KATS’ February production.
Newbury Choral Singers sang carols and Newbury Dramatic Society performed a wide selection of Christmas readings, with refreshments including free-of-charge tea, coffee and biscuits in the library’s Carnegie lounge.
Library supervisor, Yvonne Aubrey, who masterminded the event, said: “It was a busy and exciting day across the town and I’m delighted that the library was part of the celebrations.”
The visitor numbers on the day were above average and on a par with a lantern making event the previous Saturday (Dec 1), according to the wharf-based library.
