London Haydn Quartet complete16-year epic task of recording all Haydn quartets for Hyperion records – now they turn to Beethoven
ARTS for Hungerford have something of a coup with a performance of one of the leading period instrument quartets, the London Haydn Quartet, at Croft Hall on March 1.
Amazingly the London Haydn Quartet have just completed the 16-year epic task of recording all the Haydn quartets for Hyperion records.
Now they are turning their attention to Beethoven – the natural successor.
In the programme on March 1, Beethoven will be flanked by two Haydn quartets.
The London Haydn Quartet are renowned the world over for their sensitive understanding of these masterworks.
“And,” says Newbury violin and bow-maker Philip Brown, “we are very lucky that they are coming to Hungerford to launch their latest programme of Beethoven and Haydn Quartets.”
One of the world’s leading period instrument string quartets, the quartet have performed in New York, Utrecht, Cheltenham, Lyon, Singapore and Australia.
Described by Bayan Northcott in BBC Music Magazine as “players of faultless intonation, unanimity and blend”.
