Hungerford cricket chairman's second mountain climb

Another year, another summit for Hungerford Cricket Club chairman Geordie Taylor.
Not satisfied with tackling Uganda’s highest mountain, Mount Stanley, last year, Mr Taylor and his trekking companion Kevin Fenwick climbed to the top of Ethiopia’s Mount Ras Dashan – at 4,550m, the country’s tallest peak.
Ras Dashan lies in the Simien Mountains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its dramatic landscape has been carved from volcanic activity and glaciers over millions of years.
Mr Taylor said: “During our six-day trek across the park, we moved through the 4,000m barrier several times.
“You also get ample opportunity to stand at the top of cliff faces with a sheer vertical drop in excess of 1,000m.”
The two trekkers also visited schools in the park to donate pens, pencils and paper, and clinics to hand over baby clothing.
Mr Taylor said: “The local village folk have nothing to their name so a hand-me-down dress for a baby girl brings real joy to the parents.”
