Hungerford 'distraction' burglars on the run

Bogus workers conned victim

POLICE have issued a warning plus witness appeal following a distraction burglary in Hungerford.

At approximately 2pm on Tuesday, November 11, two men attended a house in Lancaster Square, stating they had come to service a chairlift.

One of the offenders kept the victim, a woman, talking outside while the other offender went inside and upstairs.

The two men left after around five to seven minutes later and the victim later realised that two rings had been stolen.

Both of the stolen rings were around 60-years-old.

One is a well worn gold wedding ring and the second a gold-coloured engagement ring which has two stones in a twist.

The offenders are both aged in their mid 40s to 50s, around 5ft 7ins or 5ft 8ins and of medium build.

They were both wearing navy blue jackets and trousers.

One had greyish hair and some form of identification pinned to his jacket.

Investigating officer, Det Con Emma Daly of Force CID based at Newbury police station, said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have seen these men in the area at this time or has any information about this incident to please get in contact via the Thames Valley Police 24-hour enquiry line 101.

“If someone uninvited comes to your door check their identification is genuine before letting them into your property. If you do not feel comfortable inviting them into your home you are able to refuse them entry.”

If you don’t want to speak directly to the police, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.

No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
