Hungerford man restores tuk-tuk for wedding
The owner of Hungerford Service Station, David Hunter, purchased the three-wheeled Indian vehicle in September.
“I have had various three-wheelers but have always wanted an Indian Tuk Tuk,” he said, adding that as soon as engaged couple Martin Yates and Anna Power saw the vehicle they wanted to use it for their wedding.
“I had to get a move on to get it done in time,” he said. “I wanted everything 100 per cent [perfect].”
Mr Hunter threw himself into the culture of the Tuk Tuk’s home country and dressed in traditional Indian attire to drive the soon-to-be Mrs Yates from her home to Hungerford Town Hall, where both the wedding ceremony and reception were held.
“It was absolutely fantastic,” added Mr Hunter. “We pulled outside the town hall and the whole town came to a standstill.
“There were people jumping out of their cars to take pictures.”
The mother of the groom, Janet Yates, said it was a brilliant day.
“They brought the high street to a standstill,” she said. “It was absolutely brilliant.”
The couple are currently enjoying their honeymoon in Belgium, where Mrs Yates’ family live, during which they will host a second reception for those who couldn’t make the wedding on Saturday.
