Hungerford Theatre Company to perform Fiddler on the Roof
And if anyone aged eight to 80 fancies treading the boards by singing, dancing or acting, audition forms will be available at the launch on Friday at Herongate Leisure centre.
The launch begins at 6.45pm for children aged eight to 13 years, and finishes at 7.30pm. This will give the youngsters an opportunity to find out what the show is all about, listen to some of the songs and explore the characters.
While the children are occupied, their parents are welcome to sit and enjoy some cheese and wine.
The adults and youth launch will take place from 7.45pm until 10pm.
All audition pieces will be made available at the launch and those interested in leading roles should book an audition slot for Monday, October 1.
However, anyone interested in taking part in the chorus or backstage will not need to audition.
After the launch rehearsals will be held on Monday nights with subsequent rehearsals on Friday for the principal performers.
The show will be performed from February 20 to February 23 next year at John O’Gaunt Community Technology College.
Fiddler on the Roof is set in Tsarist Russia in 1905 and the story centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and Jewish religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives.
He must cope both with the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters - each one's choice of husband moves further away from the customs of his faith - and with the edict of the Tsar that evicts the Jews from their village.
The original Broadway production of the show, which opened in 1964, had the first musical theatre run in history to surpass 3,000 performances.
Fiddler on the Roof held the record for the longest-running Broadway musical for almost 10 years until Grease surpassed its run.
It remains Broadway's 15th longest-running show in history and spawned four Broadway revivals plus a successful 1971 film adaptation.
The show has enjoyed enduring international popularity.
