Hunt for mystery wedding day hero

'Tom' got bride-to-be to the service on time

THE HUNT is on for the mystery hero named Tom, who saved a bride-to-be’s big day.

Challoner Ainsworth was en route from Hungerford to her wedding with the bridal party when disaster struck as a tyre blew out.

The bride’s mother Caroline Lumley, a Trustee of the Town and Manor, said: “Challenor really wanted to drive herself to her wedding so we all got in the car, which was decked with ribbons. We set off, very excited, and set off.”

The party got as far as Yattendon when disaster struck.

Mrs Lumley, married to well known actor Nicholas Lumley, said: “We tried to ring ahead for help but there was no signal. Then this delightful man turned up and told us not to worry, he would sort it out.

“He kept us all calm, changed the tyre without fuss and got us on our way in five minutes. He was so charming and he truly was our hero that day.”

Miss Ainsworth, who was brought up in Hungerford, arrived at Herons Farm in Pangbourne to wed fiance Jon Spokes on August 21 with minutes to spare.

Amid the drama and excitement, the party forgot to take the man’s details so they could thank him properly.

Mrs Lumley said: “We really want to trace him so we can show our gratitude. All we know is that his name was Tom, he lives near Yattendon and he had been working as an apprentice mechanic.”
