Hunt on for new home to save Mac's Cafe

The land that houses the existing Mac’s Cafe, by the A4 Bath Road, Padworth, was sold by its owners for housing, and demolition of the building started on Tuesday.
However, its tenant of 14-years, Raff Vigliotti, has said he is determined to keep the transport café’s legacy alive and is on the look-out for a new site.
Built in the 1930s, the café has been a popular pitstop for lorry drivers and commuters, and was used as a social base for local Land Girls during the Second World War.
More recently, Mr Vigliotti has hosted numerous historic, classic and modified car shows at the café, and it has become a popular destination for convoy and motorcycle meetings travelling across the country.
Despite its success, Mac’s Cafe closed its doors for the final time on August 2.
Mr Vigliotti said: “Had I have known I would have bought the place. I would have kept it going as a transport café.
“I spent so much money over the years, tarmac-ing the yard and installing new toilet facilities.
“For me, it’s not just about making money, it’s about Mac’s Cafe, a valued transport café.
“We really would like to replace what we have got here. To be able to create another transport café would be great.”
Mr Vigliotti would like to hear from anyone who owns land or may know of a site which could be a suitable home for the Mac’s Cafe legacy to continue on.
He can be contacted via email at raff.vigliotti@hotmail.co.uk or by calling 07796 905341.
