Wash Common dog bin ‘causing upset’

An independent West Berkshire councillor says a single dog poo bin is causing grief in his ward.

Adrian Abbs (Ind, Newbury Wash Common) has published results of a survey of his ward in Newbury.

“I noted that there has been an increase in upset residents about overflowing dog waste bins,” he said.

“So, I thought I’d see what could be done and what solutions might exist.

“As soon as I had over 100 individual responses from my Facebook survey of Wash Common residents, it became possible to do a small amount of data analysis and identify that 43 per cent of all reports in the survey was from a single dog bin.

“Most of the rest came from those at Wash Common Recreation Ground.

“Therefore, a smaller problem than it first appeared.

“It has allowed me to make specific recommendations for these bins at what would be little to no cost.”

He said there is misunderstanding about what can be and what should be done.

But he says both the town and district council could add some extra signs showing where the next waste bin is saying: “Pick it, bag it, bin it or take it home.”

“Unfortunately, a lack of cash means adding more bins and or more frequent emptying is simply not affordable unless a new way was found to fund this.”
