Identity of man who died in Whitchurch collision revealed by police

According to Hampshire Constabulary, police were called at 06.20am to Larks Barrow Hill on the Newbury Road, after a white Ford Escort van travelling northbound was involved in a collision with an A-class Mercedes travelling in the opposite direction.
A 64-year-old man, John Porter, from Whitchurch, who was driving the Ford Escort, died at the scene.
Four other men, all from the Southampton area, who were travelling in the Mercedes, have been treated for injuries.
Two sustained life threatening injuries, the other two sustained non-life threatening injuries. They were taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment.
One man has since been released from hospital; the three other men are still receiving treatment.
Road closures were put in place until early yesterday (Thursday) afternoon at the Newbury Road junction with Cole Henley Road to Litchfield, to allow a police investigation to be carried out.
Anyone with any information - or who may have seen the vehicles prior to the collision - is asked to contact the Road Death Investigation Team, at Eastleigh, on the non emergency police telephone number, 101 quoting Operation Aikton.
Alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously, telephone 0800 555 111.
