Illegal immigrants arrest near Burghfield

A stretch of the M4 closed off while police made arrests

POLICE arrested two suspected illegal immigrants yesterday (Thursday) after stopping a lorry on the M4 near Burghfield.

Acting on information that the lorry was carrying illegal immigrants, officers from Thames Valley Police closed the westbound stretch of the motorway and both carriageways at Burghfield at around 11.12am.

When the lorry left the motorway officers caught up with the vehicle and arrested two men, a 19-year old and a man in his early fifties, both thought to be from Iran.

They were later handed over the the UK Border Agency.

The motorway was reopened at 11.50am.
