In the pink at Newbury's 12th Race for Life
Organisers, the charity, Cancer Research UK had high hopes of hitting a target of raising £110,000 from this year’s 5k race, after 1,927 entrants signed up for the race.
With plenty of bottled water and sunscreen at the ready, Gemma Kitching, Senior Area Events Manager Cancer Research UK, said the day proved: “Brilliant,” with a “fantastic atmosphere” and continued:
“Thank you to the ladies of Newbury for their support for Cancer Research UK.”
Proceeds were still being totted up today (Monday) but last year 1,779 women took part in Race for Life in Newbury and raised a £112,563.
Race for Life has raised £493 million for Cancer Research UK since 1994 and in 2013 the charity aims to raise over £49 million for research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of 200 types of cancer.
